Key Stage 3-4 English and Math’s.
Key Stage 3 English and Math’s should be a process of building upon knowledge gained in years 5-7. Unfortunately, sometimes this knowledge is not as comprehensive as it should be. At Step Up, through an initial assessments, we find any gaps in the student’s knowledge. With structured individual training we plug these gaps and move forward. By doing this we have found, understanding is increased, interest in the subject builds and confidence soars.
IGCSE/GCSE English and Math’s.
In English GCSE there are techniques for analysing text, prose and poetry. The questions can be ambiguous and hard to understand exactly what they want you to do. There are terms used in the question which, once you know, are triggers for action. Students need to know language features and techniques, what is meant by words and phrases and also sentence forms. This can be taught and when mastered, changes the way the student reads text, poetry and prose. Understanding the question is the main problem. Once the student knows what the examiner is looking for, the students can focused on supplying the answer. We teach students how to answer the questions.
