Step Up has been operating from its own premises in Portishead since 2009 and currently supports close to 100 children, many of whom attend schools within Portishead. Step Up also has students from a much wider geographical area including Bristol, Clevedon, Nailsea and Weston Super Mare.
Step Up offers a respectful learning environment in which our students learn how to increase their curriculum skills, through positive teaching and games. Students are also encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning through homework designed to enhance their core skills in maths, business and English.
Step Up’s aim is to improve knowledge levels through structured lessons for students of all ages and abilities. An initial assessment of the student will show their current skill level. The lessons are then formulated to improve areas of weakness and areas where there is a distinct lack of knowledge. By focusing on the student’s immediate needs, the initial lack of subject confidence is soon overcome and results usually follow quite quickly.
Step Up teaches: Year 6 SATS, IGCSE, GCSE and A level, (Key stage 1 through to Key stage 4) English lessons cover sentence structure, SPAG, Inference, text reading and exam techniques.
Mathematics covers SATS and basic skills through to A* A level questions. Both subjects are curriculum based to ensure the students achieve the highest possible exam outcome and their full potential.
